Saves up to £150 per year on your home energy bills.
Cuts Carbon Dioxide (Co2) emissions by up to 800kg per year.
Loft insulation acts as a blanket, trapping any heat rising from the house below. The current government standard is a depth of 270mm or 11". If your loft has not been insulated in the past 15 years, it will most likely require topping up. The insulation is installed between and then across the joists.
If you have no loft insulation and you install the recommended 270mm depth you could save around £150 each year on your heating bills and 800kg of CO2. If your loft requires topping up to the recommended 270mm depth, you could save up to £45 a year and 230kg of CO2.
These figures are provided by The Energy Saving Trust and are based on a 3 bedroom semi-detached property heated by gas. Greater savings can be made in larger properties or those heated by coal or electricity.
